Making it easier to discover everything Vegan

Pllant is a place for you to discover and collect inspiring and useful Vegan content to help you on your journey to a healthier life. It's about collecting and exploring content that is important to you, like recipes, books, news, restaurants, cafe's, events, clothing and much more.

About us..

How do I add Vegan content?

All you need to do is register and then press the 'Plant Seed' button at the top right.

Pllant is built around 3 main concepts; the Seed, the Crop and the Patch

Seeds represent Vegan related content on the web.

For instance; recipes, events, products, services, restaurants ...

Once logged in, you'll see a 'Plant Seed' link on the top right, where you can post your own links to the Pllant community.

Crops are a way of grouping similar Seeds (content) together.

Seeds can be planted in one or more Crops

If you were a farmer, you would plant Seeds in Crops on Patches of land!

Pllant is the same

A Patch is your own personal area for looking after your favourite Crops and Seeds.

When you register, you'll have your own account with its own Patch.

Vegan Definition

Being Vegan is:

"A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

Our Mission

Pllant's content is Vegan related, but that doesn't mean you have to be Vegan.

"Pllant is about sharing Vegan related content with everyone in order to help eliminate animal cruelty, improving your health and the health of the environment."

Voting is one of the most important activities you can do on Pllant.

All Seeds are assumed Vegan but as all registered users can create Seeds, non-vegan related content could be posted. If you see a None-Vegan Seed, press the 'Remove' button/icon (shown below).

The voting mechanism helps ensure non-vegan Seeds get removed as quickly as possible.

Remove - Not Vegan or 'Disturbing or Sensitive' When you click this icon, you're voting that this Seed is not Vegan or contains 'Disturbing or Sensitive' content.

Small Seed Image

Seeds essentially provide a link to content on the web.

They contain a small piece of that content and an image so you can get the gist of what it's all about.

One of the big reasons they're called Seeds is that once they're Planted, they germinate and spread around Pllant and the web via Social Media for other users to explore.

Viewing a Seed

If you click on a Crop, you'll be shown a page of Seeds which have been Planted in that Crop.

If you click a Seed in a Crop, you'll be taken to the main Seed page. From here you can click the "View" link and be taken to the origin's web page.

Creating a Seed

Creating a seed is quick and easy so you can keep adding to your patch while you're on the go, wherever you are.

  1. Registration

First things first, you'll need to create your own Patch by registering.

  2. Seed Url

Then, to create a Seed, click on the 'Plant Seed' button on the top right of your page and you'll be shown a popup (example right) Then, simply copy the URL from the page you want to save and press continue.

  3. Seed Details

You will be shown a second window.

    1. Seed name, description should be populated
    2. Next, add some Crops (category) name(s).
For example; News, Recipes, Celebrities, Restaurants etc, etc, etc. You can also list more than one, just simply add a comma after each word.
    3. Then select an image
    4. Press 'Create'

    5. Once you've created the Seed, it needs to Germinate. This usually takes a couple of minutes and will happen transparently in the background.

URL Link - The URL Link is the address that specifies the location of the content that you have found and want to save on Pllant. It can be found in the address bar at the top of the screen (example below).

Manual Image Url

Pllant will pull out any images from the article that it can.

If one does not appear, or you don't want to use any that are shown, then you can add a different image by URL.

Once you have chosen the desired image, copy the image's URL (see image below) into the box below the presented images.

You can also create your seed without an image, it is completely up to you! If you do want to use one of the images shown, simply click on it to select.

Using an image's URL from a web page

Usually, this can be done by right-clicking the image and selecting to copy the image URL or opening it in a new tab and copying the URL from the address bar.
In Chrome the option is called "Copy Image Address" (See image below)

Adding Seeds to Crops

Removing Seeds from Crops

Crops are used to group similar Seeds together, much like a category.

A Crop is essentially a word or short phrase.

For example: Books, Nutrition, Plant Based News, News, Vegan Mayo, BBQ, Introduction to Vegan...

Creating a Crop

Crops are created when you create a Seed or when you Plant a Seed in a Crop.

There's no 'Create a Crop', button on Pllant. Crop's are just created automatically from the Crop names you enter.

Planting Seeds in Crops

Seeds which haven't been Planted to your Patch can easily be spotted on Pllant once you're logged in as they'll show the 'Plant' button on them. Clicking this button brings up the Seeds Crop management popup.

In the management popup, you'll see an input field called "Crop name(s)", enter the Crop names in here (They can be a comma separated list) in here or click on the buttons below "Frequently used crops below".

If the Crop exists, it will be added to your Patch. If the Crop is new it will be created and added to your Patch.

When you're happy with your Crop selections, click the "Plant in my Patch" button

Removing Seeds from Crops

Seeds which have been Planted to your Patch are easily spotted on Pllant once you're logged in as they'll show the 'Planted' button on them.

Clicking this button brings up the Seeds Crop management popup.

The popup shows which Crop you've added this Seed into. By clicking the "Prune" links, you can remove the Seed from that Crop in your Patch.

To remove it completely from your Patch, click "Prune" on all the Crops.

Pllant is starting in the UK.

This doesn't mean people can't enjoy it around the world,
it just means it won't be supporting any languages or other locale based features at the moment.

In the future, we're hoping Pllant will roll out around the world.

Beta Testing

Pllant is doing Open Beta testing in the wild to help make Pllant better for everyone
